Jiwa Jiwa on Red Light Radio
Jiwa Jiwa on Red Light Radio was one of the biggest introductions to the world of the sonic wealth the Indonesian archipelago has to offer. Hosted by founder Sekan and sometimes featuring guests of Indonesian diaspora and descent. A monthly residency which ran from 2017 until the station closed in 2020.
For the last Red Light Radio residency show I invited Uzair Sawal from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to share the decks with me for 2 hours. Playing mostly Malay tracks which are spoken in Bahasa Melayu which is the root of Bahasa Indonesia.
Twentieth residency show and this time invited Irama Mama all the way from Jakarta providing Indonesian sounds all over the world, from art biennale's to small bars, and Red Light Radio of course! Melody heavy sweet soul sounds from the cousins.
Nineteenth residency show solo again ranging from Traditional gambang kromong to city pop.
Eigthteenth residency and the return of another favorite guest. This time all the way from Bangkok our Indo-European brother Jorrit aka Dangdut Banget playing everything from gambus to qasidah to disco-funk.
Seventeenth residency show with Andre Satrio aka Andre Knight his last show for us was just so good, we had to catch him again before he went back to Jakarta.
Sixteenth residency show with a "Colonial Special" focussing on tracks recorded in Holland by Indonesian, Indo-European and Moluccan bands.
The fourth show available on multiple channels. A Harry Roesli Special with a live guest mix from Dangdut Banget.
The first official residency show for Red Light Radio is up! Check it out on 3 different channels.
