Jakarta, the first encounter

“We just passed this huge building by taxi, it reminded me of Tin Tin’s rocket to to the moon. Little did I know then that that place would have such a big impact on my whole trip.”

May 30th. That's when we arrived in Jakarta. My first time stepping on Indonesian soil. We just passed this huge building by taxi, it reminded me of Tin Tin's rocket to to the moon. Little did I know then that that place would have such a big impact on my whole trip. We were on our way from Soekarno Hatta airport to our friends place in Jakarta Selatan. Natascha and Bergas's place is amazing with an amazing record collection. Our trip couldn't have started better.

After some well needed sleep we went into Jakarta's Old Town (Kota Tua). There was this awesome blockparty going on with a big group of people dancing to a Indonesian rhythm instrument.

We didn't stay long in Jakarta, only two and a half days. But I would definitely be back. The first month of my trip was together with my girlfriend Merel. We had a pretty tight schedule so the day after we went on the train to Bandung where we would meet up with Munir (MIDNIGHT RUNNERS). I could also give him the Dopeness Galore goodies I brought with me from Wouda. They were the t-shirt you see me wearing in the picture on the right, but more importantly some copies of his release and also a test pressing of his own record.
