One of Indonesia’s greatest musicians passed away this morning on friday December 29th, 2023 at 09:00 (WIB) at St. Carolus Hospital in Jakarta.

17 Augustus, the day on which Indonesians try to spend time with their loved ones. On this so called Independence day the people celebrate, play games and reminisce.

I wrote a speech for him the morning after he passed which I spoke at his funeral last Thursday, which was a beautiful celebration of his life. I will put it online here, in Dutch, and I promise that this year my Bahasa will be good enough to translate it.

This coming Saturday on 11-02-2017 Jiwa Jiwa will be hosting the second room in the Claire. A great new venue in the centre of Amsterdam. This will be a party in which we share our hosting duties together with Tomorrow Is Now, Kid!

Very proud, happy and excited to announce that I (Sekan) will be a Red Light Radio resident as of this year! The first show will be in exactly one week on january 10th. 20.00-21.00 (CET).

As Awesome Tapes From Africa is the figurehead for obscure cassette tapes from Africa, Michiel Sekan wants to do the same for Indonesian disco, funk and boogie records.

We arrived quite late in Bandung so we went straight to our hotel. The morning after we took a taxi to Taman Hutan Raya in the north of Bandung to see some nature and also kill some time before we could meetup with Munir. It was a beautiful hike through the forest jungle.

May 30th. That's when we arrived in Jakarta. We just passed this huge building by taxi, it reminded me of Tin Tin's rocket to to the moon. Little did I know then that that place would have such a big impact on my whole trip.
