Jiwa Jiwa Cassette Mix Vol. 1 - Lagu2 Ruang Rindu

Gaël dug into the cassette archive and came up with a trilogy of mixtapes.

In his first mix he found that the common denominator were the Indonesian AOR vibes or, Instrumentalia Populer and other jazz inspired pop-not-pop songs. Join Gaël aka pala_g as he sets the tone for these ‘rooms of nostalgia songs’ or Lagu2 Ruang Rindu.

Picture yourself over at your family for the weekend, in case of Sekan’s family Oma and Tante would be in the kitchen cooking, Opa is playing records and cd’s in the living room of famous Indonesian and Moluccan bands and bands from friends. He’s walking in and out of the garden smoking his pipe. All the nieces and nephews are playing on the field nearby and what we're all actually waiting for is that moment when somebody yells that the food is ready. Afterwards we hang out in the living room, listening to and playing or making music. The essence of having a good time, captured in this mix.

The picture of the cover is taken from Sekan’s personal family photo album. It’s taken in the guest house in Dordrecht where his family arrived at in 1962. They would have slametans (diners and dances) with all the other families living in the other rooms. Cooking food, listening to music and dancing the night away.
